Apparently he died from intoxication. None of the ministers of the cemeteries would admit him or perform a service over him. His religion was unknown and his lifestyle was questionable, so they didn't want him buried in their part of the cemetery. It raised many questions over the fate of paupers like James or members of religions not part of the mainstream. .... Occupation: At his death, one newspaper says he was a butcher, another that he had been working as a shepherd at Nicol Bay and Roebuck Bay.
